Obituary

Elizabeth Ann Potts, age 33 of Canton, GA, formerly of Atlanta, passed away March 11, 2023 due to late effects of treatment of a malignant, inoperable pediatric brain tumor.

In 1994, she received a prognosis that meant she was not expected to leave the hospital alive. She not only survived that hospitalization where she spent her 4th birthday, but cheated death several times during her life of many additional hospitalizations, surgeries and therapies, including two devastating strokes in 2019. She called herself "the miracle child," and she was.

Throughout Elizabeth's life, she experienced many periodic health challenges, but she enjoyed her life, too. She considered herself a "Buckhead girl." Her laughter and sense of humor were infectious. She was gentle and kind, but tough as nails, exhibiting great strength and a strong will to live.

Elizabeth loved Disney princesses, movies and visiting Disney World perhaps more than anything. She was easy and fun to be with and loved rock, country and R&B music. Her favorite colors were pink and leopard print. She was the number one Georgia Tech Yellow Jacket fan and maintained a lifelong friendship with Buzz, the Tech mascot.

She was always looking for reasons to celebrate-both her own life, and the lives of others. She looked forward to birthdays, holidays, and family traditions as times to gather and shower others with love. She had an intense faith in Jesus Christ and prayed nightly for "the children at Children's Healthcare." While attending church services, she often told us she saw angels, and angels became a theme of her artwork.

She was designated a member of the DAR, and First Families of Tennessee; she was a member of Northside United Methodist Church, Atlanta, and a graduate of Walton High School in East Cobb.

Elizabeth was a dear, devoted daughter, sister, niece and cousin. She was predeceased by her older brother Mac Potts, grandparents Katherine and J. Ivan Potts, Jr, and grandmother Shirley Bell Cooper. She is survived by her parents, Susan C. and James Ivan Potts, Ill, her sister Sarah Katherine Potts, her grandfather Jerry L. Cooper and many aunts, uncles and cousins.

The family wishes to express its deepest gratitude to the many doctors, nurses, techs, and caregivers at CHOA (Egleston) and Emory University Hospital who have supported us for 29 years.

Funeral services will be held at 2 pm on Thursday, March 16th at Northside United Methodist Church, 2799 Northside Drive NW, Atlanta 30305. Immediately following the funeral service, all are invited to greet the family during a reception at the church.
