Obituary

Flora Diane Free Darnell

Born 9/26/1949

Dianne was welcomed into the arms of our Lord on July 2, 2026.

Dianne was the fourth child born to Howard and Cleo Free. She will be missed by her remaining siblings - Linda Collett, David (Jan) Free, Elaine (Richard) Gray and Debra (Johnny) Champion. Her sons - Keith (Christy) Allen and Casey (Christy) Allen. Her grandson Ty Allen and granddaughter Lauren Allen. She is also survived by her brother-in-law Daniel (Vickie) Darnell and sister-in-law Lee Anne (Bryan) Jones. Several nieces, nephews and cousin survived.

She is preceded in death by her son Lance Allen, husband Charles Patrick Darnell, parents Howard and Cleo Free and mother-in-law and father-in-law Mary and Walt Darnell.

After Diane graduated from Dekalb college in 1997 she worked as a Registered nurse for many years with her last position before retirement being at the VA Hospital in Augusta, GA. That is where she found her true calling helping those that had given so much to their country.

Funeral Services in honor and celebration of Diane's life will be held on Friday, July 31, 2026, at 11:30 a.m. in the Chapel of Darby Funeral Home. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 9:30 a.m. until the funeral hour. Interment will follow at 1:30 p.m. at Georgia National Cemetery. Pastor Mark Caylor, Rev. Tim Woodall, and Rev. Chris Collett will officiate.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that memorial contributions be made in memory of Diane's beloved son, Lance Allen, to the Children's Leukemia Society.

The caring staff of Darby Funeral Home is honored to serve the family of Ms. Flora Diane Free Darnell.
