Frances Ann Mattace, age 75 of Canton, Georgia, passed away peacefully on Saturday, August 16, 2025, at her home, surrounded by her husband and children.
Frances was born on October 3, 1949, in Brooklynn, New York to Micheal and Rosaria (Sarah) Furia. She attended West Islip High School and Suffolk Community College. Frances was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend.
She dedicated her life to faith, family, and community. Involved with St. Patrick's Catholic Church, she gave countless hours of service and lived her faith through her commitment to others. Her passion for education and children was reflected in her years of volunteer work with the PTA, and she went on to serve as President of the West Islip Board of Education, where she tirelessly advocated for students, teachers, and families. She also played an active role in the West Islip Bicentennial Committee and was a proud member of the West Islip Beautification Society, helping to strengthen the community she so deeply loved.
Beyond her local service, Frances was a dedicated member of the Women of the Moose, where she earned the distinguished College of Regents degree and served as Senior Regent. In recognition of her outstanding leadership and service, she was honored with the first Life Achievement Award ever presented in New York State.
Her legacy is one of selflessness, service, and love. She touched the lives of so many with her kindness, generosity, and unwavering spirit.
Frances is survived by her loving husband, Ernie Mattace Jr. of Canton, Georgia; Her daughter Jennifer and Christopher Delaney, her son Ernie and Rebecca Mattace, She was especially proud of her four grandsons - Christopher Delaney (23), Colin Delaney (21), Ethan Mattace (19), and Zachary Mattace (17)
The family will receive friends for a service on Sunday, August 24, 2025, from 1:30pm to 3:30pm at Darby Funeral Home - 480 E Main St, Canton, GA 30114. The formal service will start promptly at 2:00pm.
