Frederick W. Mortus, age 77 of Marietta, GA., passed away peacefully Saturday, November 1, 2025, at Wellstar Hospital Cobb.
Fred was born in Clinton, OH., on September 12, 1948 to Norman Edward and Betty Jane Chaffin Mortus. He graduated from Aberdeen High School in Maryland. Fred served four years in the United States Navy, serving one tour in Vietnam. After serving his country, he worked as a restaurant manager for Morrison Cafeteria which later became the Picadilly Cafeteria for over thirty years. He was loved by his employees, his family, and especially his wife Karon for fifty-two years. Fred was a big fan of Elvis Presley. He was a one of a kind man with a terrific sense of humor. In his spare time, Fred enjoyed cooking and baking. But nothing satisfied him more than spending time with his family.
Fred was preceded in death by his grandson, Nolan Mortus.
He is survived by his loving wife, Karon Mortus of Marietta, GA., his son, Fred (Branden) Mortus of Woodstock, GA., his daughter, April (Peter) Starratt of Marietta, GA., his brother, David Mortus of Ruskin, FL., his grandchildren, William Mortus and Brent Starratt, and his great-grandchildren, Merliah Mortus, Willow Mortus, and Xander Mortus.
The family will receive friends at Darby Funeral Home on Thursday, November 6th from 10:30a.m. to 12:30p.m. The funeral will begin at 12:30p.m. in the chapel of Darby Funeral Home with Chris Collett officiating. Interment will follow at Georgia National Cemetery at 2:30p.m.
