Mrs. Geneva "Jan" Bernard, age 85, died peacefully on Saturday, December 27, 2014 at her residence in Canton, GA where she lived with her daughter, Linda and son in law, Mark. She was born on January 24, 1929 in Alexandria, Virginia, and after graduating from Mount Vernon High School she worked for a health insurance company for several years. She met her future husband, Ray Bernard, who was stationed with the Army in Alexandria, whom she married in January 1948. The couple had four children. Jan was a devoted wife, mother and a women deeply committed to her faith and family. Throughout their 58 years of marriage, they resided in Virginia, Maryland, Florida, Louisiana, and after Ray retired they settled in Woodstock, GA, to be near family. After moving to Woodstock in 1994, they became active members of St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church and served on various committees and called this their church home. Jan was preceded in death by her parents, Melvin J. Dodd, Sr. and Ida Welch Dodd, her sister, Kay Hensley, brothers Melvin Dodd, Edwin Dodd and Alvin Dodd, her beloved husband Ray who died in February 2006 and grandson Eric Bernard. She is survived by her children, son, Ray M. Bernard, Houston, TX, and daughters Linda Dady, Canton, GA, Melissa Muzio, Canton, GA, and Patricia Marino, Durham, NC, grandchildren Rianne Millikin, Cory McKinney, Savanna Bernard, Jacob Bernard, Jillian Bernard, Andrée Marino, Jack Marino, and great grandchildren Bella Millikin, Braden Millikin, Genevieve Bernard and Eliana Bernard, and daughter in law, Suzanne Bernard, sons in law, Mark Dady, Andy Marino and Joey Muzio, sister Anne Jenkins, and many nieces and nephews. Known for her kindness, compassion and a heart for serving others, she was deeply loved and will be greatly missed by her family and all who were blessed to know her. A private funeral mass will be held at St. Michael the Archangel Church later in January.
