George Lamar Stowers
November 4, 1945 – October 9, 2025
On Wednesday, October 9, 2025, surrounded by the love of his family, George Lamar Stowers of Hickory Flat, Georgia, went home to be with the Lord he loved so dearly. He was 79 years old.
Born on November 4, 1945, in Dawsonville, Georgia, George was the son of Harold and Nellie Kate Owens Stowers. He grew up in the North Georgia hills, where hard work, faith, and family shaped the man he would become.
George met the love of his life, Jo, as a young man, and together they built a beautiful life that spanned 60 years of marriage. Their love was steady and true — the kind built on laughter, prayer, and long talks on the porch. Together they raised their daughter, Angie, and later welcomed a son-in-law, Mike Hathcock, and three grandchildren who were the light of George's life: Georgie, Levi, and Hannah. "Gramps" loved nothing more than spending time with his grandkids — teaching them how to plant a garden, bait a hook, or see God's hand in the simple things.
For 24 years, George was a faithful member of Chalcedonia Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon for 14 years. His quiet strength, humble service, and deep faith touched countless lives. Whether he was tending the church grounds, visiting those in need, or lending a helping hand to a neighbor, George lived out his faith every day.
He retired in 2003 after a long and dedicated career as a pipefitter for AT&T, but retirement didn't slow him down. George was happiest with dirt under his nails, planting and tending his garden — or on the water with a fishing pole in hand, where he almost always managed to out-fish his brothers Dennis, Jerry, and David. He loved history, good stories, and sharing a laugh with anyone who'd sit a spell.
George will be remembered as a loving husband, devoted daddy, proud father-in-law, and the best "Gramps" a grandkid could ask for. He lived a life of integrity, kindness, and unwavering faith. Above all else, he loved the Lord — and his life was a reflection of that love.
Funeral services will be held at 3:00 PM on Sunday, October 12, 2025, at Chalcedonia Baptist Church, with interment following in the church cemetery. Reverend Troy Milford, Reverend Casey Richards, Reverend Larry Waddell, Reverend Rodney King, and Reverend Josh Dobson will officiate.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday from 4:00 PM–9:00 PM, Saturday from 11:00 AM–7:00 PM, and Sunday from 12:00 PM–2:00 PM.
Though his earthly journey has ended, George's legacy of love, faith, and family will live on in all who knew him.
