Gertrude A. "Trudie" Horton, 90 of Ellijay, passed away Monday, April 1, 2024, at Manor Lake Assisted Living in Ellijay. Visitation will be Friday, May 24th from 9-9:30am at Darby Funeral Home. A memorial service will follow at 9:30am in the chapel of Darby Funeral Home. Interment will follow at 11:30am at Georgia National Cemetery.
Trudie was born in Passaic, NJ. to the late Anthony and Jennie Babula. She married Raymond J. Horton in 1953. She was employed by the State of N.J. Department of Personnel for 27 years, serving as Secretary to the Division Director.
After her retirement, they moved from N.J. to Fort Myers, Florida in 1991. Raymond's favorite baseball training camp was the motivation for the move. In 2006, the moved to the River Green Community in Canton, GA. and loved it there.
Music was very important to Trudie. She played violin all through school. She sang in choirs and for weddings until her 80's. Her loves were, #1 God, #2 family and dear friends, #3 music of all kinds. Her final residence was Manor Lake Assisted Living in Ellijay, GA.
She is survived by:
Son - Raymond (Cindy) Horton of Ellijay, GA.
Daughter - Roxanne Turner (Claiborne Kent) of Roanoke, VA.
Grandchildren - Shannon (Michael) Ortiz, Jill (Dale) Wheeler, Raymond (Mary) Hegyi, Jenna Decker, Christopher Wheeler.
Great-Grandchildren - Serena Ortiz, Somer Wheeler, Sydney Wheeler, Christopher Wheeler III, Emily Wheeler, Jaxton Hegyi, Remington Wheeler.
