Obituary

Gillis Paul Cure, 87, of Canton, Georgia, passed away peacefully on December 6, 2024, at Northside Hospital Cherokee. Born on March 20, 1937, in New Orleans, Louisiana, to Gillis Ernest and Nellie Cure, Gillis lived a life rich with love, music, and service.

Gillis proudly served in the United States Air Force for six years, where his dedication and discipline formed the foundation of the man he would become. After his military service, he found his true calling in music. A gifted saxophonist, Gillis had a deep passion for music that never wavered. Whether he was playing his saxophone or tuning pianos, he had a unique ability to bring beauty and harmony into the lives of those around him.

He was a soul untouched by imperfection, as pure as the driven snow, or the first snowfall—without a single flaw, wrinkle, or blemish to be found. Anyone who crossed his path was moved by his goodness, and there was not a person who could say a harsh word about him. He was deeply loved, not just for his kindness, but for the way his presence made others feel seen, heard, and cared for. His gentle heart and unwavering love had a way of softening the world around him, leaving a trail of warmth wherever he went.

Beyond his musical talents, Gillis was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. His greatest joy came from spending time with his family, and his love for them was unwavering. He is survived by his beloved wife, Patricia Cure of Canton, Georgia; his sons, Elijah James (Holly) Cure of LaFayette, Louisiana, and Samuel John (Elexsandra) Cure of Alpharetta, Georgia; his daughter, Monique Olivia Cure of Canton, Georgia; and his cherished grandchildren, Kaique, Mason, and Iago. He was preceded in death by his parents, Gillis Ernest and Nellie Cure, and his brothers, Richard and Roland Cure.

A graveside service with military honors will be held on Thursday, December 12, 2024, at 10:30 AM at Georgia National Cemetery in Canton, Georgia. The funeral procession will depart from the funeral home at 9:30 AM.

Gillis's legacy will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. He will be deeply missed for his gentle spirit, his loving presence, and the joy he brought through his music. In life, he taught those around him of the importance of family, the power of music, and the beauty of a life well-lived. Though he may no longer be with us, his memory will forever resonate in the melodies he shared and the love he gave.

The caring staff of Darby Funeral Home is honored to serve the Cure family.
