Harold Thomas Slate
July 9, 1941 – April 4, 2025
Harold Thomas Slate, a devoted husband, loving father, proud grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away on April 4, 2025, leaving behind a legacy of love, laughter, and cherished memories.
Born to Ruby Irene and Egbert T. Slate in Lithonia, Georgia, Harold's life was one marked by dedication—to his family, his work, and his passions. In 1967, he married the love of his life, Elaine Woods Slate, shortly after she moved to Atlanta. From the moment they met, they knew they were meant to be. Together, they built a beautiful life, celebrating 58 years of unwavering love and companionship just last month.
Harold worked tirelessly for Transus Freight Lines, where he dedicated 30 years before retiring. But his true joy was found outside of work—whether cheering for his beloved Georgia Bulldogs, enjoying a round of golf, or sharing a meal with family at Williamson Brothers BBQ. Some of his happiest moments were spent on the white sandy shores of Panama City Beach, where he loved taking his family, making memories over meals at Angelo's and Captain Anderson's.
Harold's greatest pride was his family. He leaves behind his devoted wife, Elaine, and their children: Troy Slate (Kaye) of Canton, GA; Tommy Slate of Locust Grove, GA; Tony Slate (Nadine) of Stockbridge, GA; and Tara Slate of Canton, GA. His legacy continues through his grandchildren, Tyler Slate, Kyle Slate, and Jessica Thomas, and his great-grandchild, Ellis Baylor Slate.
Family and friends are invited to celebrate Harold's life during visitation on Monday, April 7, 2025, from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Darby Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, April 8, 2025, at 10:00 AM in the chapel of Darby Funeral Home, with Chris Collett officiating. Harold will be laid to rest at Cherokee Memorial Park, where his memory will live on in the hearts of those who loved him.
Harold's warmth, humor, and unwavering love for his family will be deeply missed, but his spirit will forever remain in the moments he cherished most.
