Harriett Joan Horvath of Canton, Georgia went home to be with LORD in January. She was 93. Born on December 16, 1929, in Knoxville, TN to Margaret Lillian Hodge and Lawrence Frank Bean. When she was three years old, Harriett moved with her parents to Washington, D.C., where her father had been hired by the Federal Government. She lived most of her life in the Metro Washington DC area. Harriett's career as a librarian spanned over 40 years and included positions with Prince George's County, Maryland, Washington, D.C. Public Library finally retiring from U.S. Department of the Army, Corps of Engineers library in Washington, D.C.
In the earlier 1980's she took a position with the Department of Defense and spent 3 years working and living in Hanau Germany. While stationed there, Harriett loved to travel throughout Europe and the Middle East. After completing her time with the Department of Defense she moved back to Maryland where she worked with the Corp of Engineers. It was while she was working at the Corp that she met Leslie Horvath. They were married in 1988 and moved to Annapolis, Md. In 2011 she moved with her late husband Leslie from Annapolis, Maryland to Canton, GA. where she could be closer to her daughter Carolyn Greene and her family and late brother David Bean and his family.
Harriett is survived by her two children, Kenneth Marc Teffeau (Linda) and Carolyn Joan Greene, both of Holly Springs, GA. Two stepchildren Claire (Franklin) Timms and Timothy Horvath. Grandchildren Timothy (Stacy) Teffeau, Dr. Andrew Teffeau (Meredith), Matthew Teffeau(Gina Carbone), Sarah Kokoszka (Geoff), Eric Greene and Vanya Greene. Step grandchildren Elizabeth Timms and Billy Timms. Great grandchildren Daniel and Harriet Teffeau and Daphne and Judah Kokoszka. Sister-in-law Eileen Bean, and nephew Jeff (Maggie)Bean and niece Lora (Lou)Ferrero.
Harriett was preceded in death by her first husband Paul L. Teffeau, Jr. , her second husband Leslie Horvath and her brother David Bean.
She was a loving mother, Grammie and Great Grammie and will be missed by all. Harriett was a brave and amazing woman who loved without limitations! Harriett had many lifelong friendships that spanned over 50 years. She loved to read, play cards, water aerobics, do crosswords puzzles in pen, and travel. In fact, she loved to travel so much all one would have to say is let's go and she would be in the car.
A memorial service for Harriett will be held on Saturday, February 11th at Darby Funeral Home, Canton, Georgia. Visitation from 1:30p.m. to 2:30 p.m. with the memorial service at 2:30 p.m. in the chapel of Darby Funeral Home with Rev. Rob Murphey, New Covenant Bible Church, Canton, officiating with Rabbi Kevin Solomon, Congregation Beth Hallel, Roswell. Internment of her and late husband Leslie's ashes following at Cherokee Memorial Cemetery, Canton, and a reception at New Covenant Bible Church, 1095 Scott Road, Canton. In lieu of flowers contributions can be made to St Jude's for Children or Wounded Warriors Project. The family would like to thank the kind and compassionate care that their mom received from the staff at The Arbor at Bridgemill, Trinity Hospice of Georgia and Silver Companions, Inc.
