Hazel Napier Galloway, age 79, passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 14, 2026, at Bethany House in Auburn, Alabama.
Born in Canton, Georgia on December 12, 1946, Hazel was the daughter of the late Earl and Virginia Napier. A dedicated student, she earned an academic scholarship to the University of Georgia, where she graduated with a bachelor’s degree in education. She devoted 32 years of her life to teaching in Cherokee County, where she touched countless lives through her kindness, patience, and commitment to her students.
Hazel was a devoted fan of the Georgia Bulldogs and the Atlanta Braves. More than anything, she loved her family. Her greatest joy came from spending time with her grandchildren, whom she adored deeply.
In addition to her parents, Hazel was preceded in death by her husband, Eddie Galloway, and son, Brad Galloway.
She is survived by her son, Matt (Sloan) Galloway of Auburn, Alabama; grandchildren, Walker Galloway and Knox Galloway of Auburn, Alabama; her longtime partner, Larry Cavender of Jasper, Georgia; and siblings, Earline Johnson of Conway, South Carolina, Judy Napier of Conway, South Carolina, and Gail (Lamar) Lathem of Jasper, Georgia.
Funeral Services in honor and celebration of Ms. Galloway’s life will be held on Friday, May 22, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. in the chapel of Darby Funeral Home. Rev. Wallace Eugene Wheeles will officiate. The family will receive friends for visitation on Friday, May 22, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. until the funeral hour. Interment will follow at Cherokee Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Parkinson's Foundation in memory of Ms. Hazel Galloway.
