Herbert J. McFarland, age 89, of the Buffington Community died at his residence on Sunday, January 17, 2010 with his family at his side. He was a veteran of the German Campaign in World War II, and a recipient of the Purple Heart with Oak Leaf Cluster, and the Bronze Star.He was preceded in death by his parents Alfred and Alice Tippens McFarland, and by his brothers and sisters, Myrtle, Truman, Edna, Howard, Claude, and Marie, all of Keithburg.

He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Dorothy Bishop McFarland, son Jimmy L. McFarland, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law Henry and Ruth Bishop, Tom Bishop, Joyce Bishop and Willie B. McFarland, all of Canton, and several cousins, nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, January 19 at 2 P.M. at Darby Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Tom Bishop officiating. Interment in Cherokee Memorial Park.
