Hubert Franklin "Jim" Owens, age 81 of Canton, GA passed away Sunday October 5, 2014. A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00AM Friday October 10, 2014 from the Big Canoe Chapel in Jasper, Georgia. Dr. C. Gray Norsworthy will officiate. A reception will be held after the service. Jim graduated from the University of Southern Mississippi where he was a member of ODK and KA Fraternities. He graduated Emory University Law School following his military service. He was employed by the U.S. Department of Labor National Labor Relations Board and Southern Bell/ Bell South from which he retired in 1994. Active in church and community organizations all his life. He was a member of the Georgia, Florida and South Carolina Bar Associations. After retirement he moved to Big Canoe where he held many positions of leadership including chairmanship of Property Owners Association and Big Canoe Chapel Trustees, Smoke Signal column and enjoyed golf and tennis. (Mark Funk) Owens, Los Angeles, CA, Daughter; Elizabeth Ann (John) Minozzi, Canton, GA, Brother; Dean (Glenda) Owens, Canton, GA, Sister; Rebecca (John) Bowling, Dalton, GA, Sister- in- law; Evie (Wayne) Stolz, Marietta, GA, 3 Grandchildren; Jack, Michael and Sam Minozzi and a host of nieces and nephews.
