Jim was born in New Orleans, LA to Morgan and Mabel Harvey. The family, including his four siblings, later settled in the DC area where he graduated from Wheaton HS in 1962. He served seven years in the US Navy including two tours in Viet Nam attached to the Naval Advisory Group. Upon his return, he worked three years as Station Manager of Commercial Operations for WTTG TV in Washington, D.C. before moving to California where he began his career with the Department of Defense. He retired in 2000 from Defense Logistics Agency as a Contract Administrator. After the 9-11 attacks, he went back to work as a private contractor; eventually working on the Pentagon Renovation Team until he was transferred to Marine Corps System Command Quantico. There he helped insure continuous delivery of High Power Jammers for MRAP vehicles. He retired for the second and final time in 2012.
Jim had a passion for planes from "fast movers" to single engine. He acquired a private pilot's license and spent many years in the sky. We attended many air shows and one of his favorite places was the Air and Space Museum in Chantilly VA. He was the perfect tour guide! He had a love of vintage trucks and muscle cars, which he shared with his son Mat. He looked forward to and enjoyed attending " Cruisin' the Coast" each year in Mississippi. Loved Drag Racing, NASCAR and Football. One of his favorite pastimes was grilling and smoking meats for his awesome BBQ and Chili, for which he won many competitions. He also compiled a personal cookbook.
Jim was a completely Devoted, Loving and Protective Husband, Father, Grandfather and Friend. Although his loss is indescribable, our Hearts are comforted in knowing he is in God's care and proudly standing guard over all of us, and, as an Angel of Patriots.
