James Leonard Marks
February 13, 1940 – November 20, 2024
James Leonard Marks, age 84, of Canton, GA, passed away peacefully on November 20, 2024, surrounded by his loving family. Born on February 13, 1940, to Dr. Ora Leonard Marks and Lucille Whiting Marks, James lived a full and adventurous life, embracing every opportunity with an open heart and a boundless curiosity.
James earned his law degree from Indiana University but never confined himself to one path. Over the years, he thrived as an art dealer, real estate broker, stockbroker, and the owner of Flash Trash in Gunnison, CO. His passion for art was evident in his deep appreciation for Christian imagery, Western wildlife, and historical pieces, particularly Civil War art.
An avid outdoorsman, James enjoyed fishing, hunting, and even crow hunting. He raised German Wirehaired Pointers, reflecting his love for the outdoors and sporting traditions. Rooted in faith, James grew up in the Methodist Church, which his parents helped establish in Hammond, IN. His spiritual lineage extended to his grandfather, who was a minister in Wisconsin.
James is survived by his beloved wife, Madge Marie Marks of Canton, GA, and his brother, Dr. David Marks (Lee) of Tulsa, OK.
Services to honor James's remarkable life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Amedisys Hospice at 111 Mountain Vista Boulevard, Suite 145, Canton, Georgia, 30115, in gratitude for the compassionate care he received.
The staff of Darby Funeral Home is honored to serve the Marks family during this time.
