Obituary

James Benjamin Rainey, Jr., 81, of Woodstock, Georgia, passed away peacefully on January 2, 2025. He was born on December 18, 1943, in Macon, Georgia, to the late James B. Rainey and Irene Rainey.
James was a devoted husband to his beloved wife of 59 years, Sherry Rainey. Together, they built a loving family that brought him immense joy throughout his life. He is survived by his sons, Kevin Rainey of Jefferson and Jason Rainey (Missy) of Canton; his sister, Martha Meadows of Jefferson; and his cherished grandchildren, Kaylynn (Ben) Adams, Kasen (Caroline) Rainey, Ansleigh Rainey, and Ben Rainey. In addition to his parents, James was preceded in death by his siblings Eleanor and William.
James dedicated 35 years of service to the United States Postal Service, retiring as Postmaster in Canton, Georgia. Following his retirement, he continued to work for Home Depot for 17 years. His strong work ethic and dedication to serving others were hallmarks of his career.
A man of faith, James was an active member of several churches throughout his life. These included First Baptist Church Centerville; Westside Baptist Church in Warner Robins; First Baptist Church Bonaire; Epworth First Baptist Church; and most recently Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Canton.
James found great happiness in spending time with his family and particularly enjoyed playing golf with loved ones. His passion for the game reflected his appreciation for life's simple pleasures and the value he placed on togetherness.
A man of quiet strength and unwavering love for those closest to him, James will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. May his memory bring comfort and peace to those he leaves behind.
