Jean Jamieson Hargrove of St. Simons Island died Wednesday, December 28, 2011 at age 86. A native of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania Hargrove married James W. Hargrove in 1942 and moved to Decatur, Georgia and then Athens, before retiring to St. Simons Island in 1986.  An active member of the community, Jean served as museum store manager at the St. Simons Lighthouse from 1993-2000 and continued her volunteer service with the Coastal Georgia Historical Society until this year. She also worked for 10 years at the Golden Isles' visitor center located on St. Simons until her retirement earlier this year.



She is survived by her three children, James W. Hargrove, Jr. of Burke, Virginia and wife Adrienne; Candace H. Duncan of Greer, South Carolina and husband, Jay; and Cheryl M. Hargrove, of Washington, DC, and husband John Bauser, five grandchildren, and two great grandchildren.



A memorial service will be held at St. Simons Presbyterian Church, St. Simons Island, on Sunday, January 1, 2012 at 2:00 pm. Public visitation is scheduled for Saturday, December 31, 2011 from 2:30 pm – 4:30 pm at Edo Miller Funeral Home, Brunswick.  Mrs. Hargrove will be buried at the Georgia National Cemetery in Canton, Georgia at 1:00 pm on Wednesday, January 4, 2012.  In lieu of flowers, the family asks memorial contributions be made to the American Foundation for the Blind, 2 Penn Plaza, Suite 1102, New York, NY 10121, (212) 502-7626 or www.afb.org/cc_gift.asp .  Edo Miller and Sons Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. www.edomillerandsons.com
