Rev. Jesse Floyd Tenney, age 91, of Woodstock, Georgia, passed away Sunday, October 4, 2026, at Northside Hospital Forsyth in Cumming, Georgia.
He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, dedicated pastor, and faithful servant of Jesus Christ. Floyd served in the United States National Guard and was a graduate of LaGrange College. He received a Masters of Divinity degree from Candler School of Theology at Emory University.
Floyd faithfully served as an ordained elder in the United Methodist Church for 40 years before retiring in 2000. He continued his ministry of service as a hospital chaplain at Northside Hospital Cherokee for 18 years, retiring in 2018.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Johnny Tenney (Lily Mae) and Sara Kempson (C.L.); his brother, Jerry Tenney; his first wife and mother of his children, Betty Gladney Tenney, and his second wife, Marilyn Childre Tenney.
He is survived by his brother, Robert Tenney (Betty); his wife, Betty Phillips Tenney; his children, Mitch Tenney (Carmen), Dawn Tomasello (William), and Jay Tenney (Joni); his stepchildren, Kathryn Neely (Robbie) and Allen Phillips; his grandchildren, Jonathan Tenney, Michelle Skaggs (Matthew), Jordan Whitis (David), Jessica Tomasello, Jenny Tomasello, Madelyn Hooper (Will), Will Tenney, and Alana Purdy (Tynan); and his great-grandchild, Adaline Jay Whitis.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, October 9, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. at Canton First Methodist Church, with Rev. Dr. Dave Benson, Rev. Jay Tenney, and Dr. C.R. Hill officiating.
The family will receive friends for visitation on Thursday, October 8, 2026, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Darby Funeral Home, and on Friday, October 9, 2026, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Canton First Methodist Church.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to MUST Ministries (218 Old Donaldson Road, Canton, GA. 30114) or Penfield Addiction Ministries (1061 Mercer Circle, Union Point, GA. 30669).
