Jimmy Harold Sams, 79, of Jasper, passed away on Monday, December 18, 2023, after suffering with dementia. He passed peacefully surrounded by his loved ones.
Jim was born January 27, 1944, in Canton, GA. Although he lived in multiple states throughout the eastern U.S., he returned to his home state in 1980 and never left. He enjoyed deer hunting and his beloved Georgia Bulldogs. Many may remember him for his 1928 Model A Ford Speedster, his pride and joy that he restored and painted UGA red, driving in the Georgia Homecoming parade and other events.
Jim is survived by his life partner Angie Burgess, Jasper, GA, daughters Tracy Barnett (Tom) of Charlotte, NC, Terry Hopkins (Tye) of Canton, GA and granddaughters Bailey Barnett, Kinsey Barnett and Harper Hopkins.
The family wishes to thank the staff and caregivers of The Retreat at Jasper and Compassus Hospice for the care and love they showed Jim during the time he was a resident.

The family has entrusted Darby Funeral Home to handle the arrangements. Visitation will be held on Wednesday December 20, 2023 11 am-8 pm. Additional visitation will be held on Thursday, December 21, 2023 from 11am-1 pm with the service to follow at Darby's Chapel at 1 pm, officiated by Jim's nephew, David Bobo & Rev. Tye Hopkins .
Burial and a Graveside service will follow at Antioch Baptist Church Cemetery, Talking Rock, GA.
