Joel David Rodgers, age 84 of Canton, Georgia, passed away peacefully at his residence on Thursday, July 30, 2026.

Born on July 31, 1941, in Rockmart, Georgia, Joel was the son of the late Wesley and Grace Rodgers. He was a proud veteran of the United States Coast Guard and a devoted public servant whose life was marked by integrity, dedication, and service to others.

Joel graduated from Rockmart High School before continuing his education at Reinhardt College and North Georgia College. In 1968, he began a distinguished career with the Georgia State Patrol, faithfully serving the citizens of Georgia for 31 years. Throughout his career, he earned the respect of his fellow troopers and the communities he served, ultimately achieving the rank of Lieutenant before retiring in 1999.

A man of deep faith, Joel was a faithful member of Canton First Baptist Church. He will be remembered for his steadfast character, his commitment to his family, and the lasting impact he made through his years of public service.

Joel is survived by his loving sons, Marty (Karen) Rodgers of Ball Ground, Georgia, and Andy Rodgers of Canton, Georgia; his cherished grandchildren, Cade Rodgers, Cole Rodgers, Gracie Rodgers, and Jacob Rodgers; his beloved great-grandchildren, Leia Rodgers and Ryder Rodgers; and his sisters, Audrey (Henry) Williams of Rockmart, Georgia, and Betty Rodgers of Rockmart, Georgia.

A graveside service will be held at a later date at Greenlawn Cemetery in Roswell, Georgia. The Georgia State Patrol Honor Guard will provide honors in recognition of Lieutenant Rodgers' distinguished career and faithful service to the State of Georgia.
