John Herman Fincher's Obituary

John H. Fincher, son of the late Senator Jack C. Fincher Sr. and Katherine Wink Fincher, passed away on December 14, 2025, at his residence in Canton, Georgia.

Born on April 7, 1948, John lived a life marked by service, leadership, and deep devotion to his community and family. He was a respected businessman, pharmacist, and tireless advocate for the Canton community.

John was a graduate of Cherokee High School, where he proudly served as drum major. He went on to attend the University of Georgia, where he was president of his fraternity, Rho Chi, and earned his degree in Pharmacy in 1973. He also served his country as a member of the National Guard from 1971 to 1978.

In 1975, John married the love of his life, Deborah Worley. Together they made their home in Cherokee County, where they built a life rooted in family and community. In 1985, they welcomed their daughter, Dyanna.

John devoted his entire professional career to serving the people of Canton as a pharmacist. He began by running—and later purchasing—the Canton Drug Company, the Fincher family business that first opened its doors in downtown Canton in 1896. In 1991, John sold the business to Big B and continued serving the community as a trusted pharmacist with Big B, Eckerds, and Publix Pharmacies until his retirement in 2009.

Deeply committed to civic life, John was active in numerous organizations throughout the years, including the Jaycees, the Lions Club, and the Downtown Merchants Association. He was a member of Canton First Methodist Church, History Cherokee, Game and Fish, and remained a steadfast supporter of local causes.

John was a devoted family man and an enthusiastic supporter of every endeavor his loved ones pursued. He cherished fishing, cheering on the Georgia Bulldogs, cooking and grilling, and was especially proud of his reputation as a champion BBQ pitmaster.

Charismatic and warmly engaging, John was a friend to many. He delighted in sending daily weather reports to his wide circle of friends and hearing their stories in return. He loved a good joke, thrived on spirited conversation, and had a remarkable ability to connect with people. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him—there will truly never be another like him.

John is survived by his wife, Deborah Fincher of Canton, Georgia; his daughter, Dyanna (Ethan) Diggs of Canton; his brother, Bill (Deannie) Fincher of Canton; his sister-in-law, Ann Fincher of Canton, his sister-in-law, Penelope Worley, his brother-in-law, Dan Worley, and his beloved grandchildren, Marshal Diggs and Ellis Diggs.

The Fincher family will receive visitors at Darby's Funeral Home in Canton, Georgia, on Wednesday, December 17, from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., and again on Thursday, December 18, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. The funeral service will be held at Darby's Chapel on Thursday, December 18, at 1:00 p.m.
