The family will receive friends at Darby Funeral Home, 480 East Main Street, Canton, Georgia at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, May 14, 2018.

Turner was born on December 25, 1918. As a youth, Turner was active in scouting and was an Eagle Scout. He also especially enjoyed playing tennis and golf with friends and family. After graduation from Canton High School in 1935, he attended and graduated from the University of Georgia in 1939 with a Bachelor of Science Degree and later attended and graduated from the Georgia Institute of Technology in 1940 with a Bachelor of Science in Textile Engineering. He began his employment with Canton Textile Mills, Inc. in Canton, Georgia in 1940, manufacturers of blue denim fabric, and a year later joined the Turner Halsey Company, as sakes agent for the Mill, located in New York. His employment there was interrupted by World War II, where he enlisted in the Navy and was assigned to the Navy Aviation Supply Corps, where he served as an officer in various capacities until 1946 when he was honorably discharged with the rank of Lieutenant Senior Grade. That same year he founded Turner Jones Co., Inc. to act as sales agent for Canton Textile Mills, Inc. His principal office was in New York City where he became a member of the New York Cotton Exchange, serving on its Trade Committee as well as a member of the Marketing Committee of the American Textile Manufacturing Association. During the 1950's and 1960's he also served as a Director and was a shareholder of both the Canton Textile Mills, Inc. and the Jones Mercantile Company, both family related firms. In 1957, he served as Assistant Treasurer and as Member of the Executive Committee of the Billy Graham New York Crusade, Inc., and later founded and funded the Cape Foundation, Inc., a charitable organization interested primarily in providing education scholarships and grants to qualified individuals. In December 2005, he retired to Canterbury Court in Atlanta, Georgia, a continuing care institution. He was a life-long bachelor who loved his brother's and sisters' families as if they were his own. He was always genuinely interested in what they were doing and their plans for the future, and he especially enjoyed welcoming a new spouse, and later children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren into the family. He loved, and was dearly loved by, all of his extended family and his loyal friend and caretaker at Canterbury Court, Chung.

He was predeceased by his parents, Louis L. Jones, Sr., and Pearl Turner Jones, his brother Louis L. Jones, Jr., and his sister Sarah Jones Cheatham. He is survived by his sister, Peggy Jones Smith, also in Canterbury Court, and his extended family from his brother and sisters. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to your favorite charity.
