John James McGrath, age 94 of Canton, passed away on December 13, 2014 at Northside Hospital Cherokee. A Memorial Service will be held at 12:00PM Friday January 9, 2015 from Our Lady La Sallette Catholic Church Canton, GA. Interment with Military Honors will follow in the Georgia National Cemetery. Father Victor Reyes will officiate. Born and raised in Waterbury, CT he graduated from St. Bonaventure'e University in 1943 and received his Master's Degree from the University of Connecticut. From 1943- 1946 he served honorably in the United States Navy during WWII. After the war he taught high school English and History for the Waterbury, CT Public School System later becoming the Media Services Director for the school system. After retiring he resided in Venice, FL for half of the year and lived in Annapolis, MD for the other half to be near his daughter and her family. He especially enjoyed attending his grandsons' sporting events, watching the Red Sox on TV, walking, reading and spending time with his family. In 2012 he moved to Canton, GA to be close to his daughter and her family. He was preceded in death by wife of 64 years, Germaine McGrath. He is survived by daughter Kathleen McGrath Locke of Canton, Ga; grandchildren Ryan (Loren) Locke of Atlanta, Ga, Jonathan Locke of Atlanta, Ga; great-grandchildren Margaret Locke and Calvin Locke.
