John Wesley Spurlin, 87, of Hoschton, Georgia passed away Dec 30th, 2017.
He was born on Nov. 15, 1930 in Andalusia, Alabama to Mary Alice and Charlie Spurlin.
He served in the Air Force during the Korean war and was the personal navigator for Colonel Michael McCoy in Orlando, Florida (McCoy AFB). After his service he worked for IBM for 33 years as a Customer Engineer and Field Manager. He retired from IBM and started a private building contractor business.
He was an active member of Assembly of God in Florida and served as a deacon at Victory Church in Lakeland, Florida. He spent his retirement years building churches across the United States on mission trips.
He was preceded in death by his brother Bill Spurlin. He is survived by sisters Dorothy Lee Vines, Louise Dykes, and Annette Staley.
He is survived by his high school sweetheart and wife of 67 years Marjorie (Stanley), daughters, Beverly (Mark) Beard of Jefferson, Ga, and Beth (Tony) Jasso of Las Cruces, NM. Three grandchildren Jenna (John) McElroy, Joni (James) Gilman, and Jason (Amanda) Beard. Six great-grandchildren Rylan, Brantley, and Colton McElroy, Jay Gilman, Ella and Charlotte Beard.
A memorial service will be held at Darby Funeral Home, 480 East Main St., Canton, Ga 30114 on Wednesday Jan 3rd at 11:30 AM with Rev Milton Dykes officiating. Burial ceremony will immediately follow at Georgia National Cemetery at 1080 Scott Hudgens Dr. in Canton Ga.
