John W. Carmichael, 78, of Marietta, died Monday, January 16, 2012. A Cobb County native, Mr. Carmichael lived in Marietta for most of his life and was a member of Roswell Street Baptist Church. He served his country in the U.S. Marine Corps.  He worked for Westinghouse/Schindler Elevator Company in Atlanta for 38 years and Lowe's in Woodstock for 13 years. He was a baseball and softball coach at Shaw Park, and a leader of the Sprayberry Football Booster Club. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, and was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Elizabeth Brown Carmichael of Marietta; daughter Sandra Carmichael of Acworth; son Dan & Robyn Carmichael of Canton; son Steve & Elizabeth Carmichael of Lawrenceville; 8 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild.  The family will receive friends from 4:00 until 8:00 PM Wednesday, January 18th at Darby Funeral Home, 480 Main Street, Canton, Ga. 30114 and the service will be held at 2:00 Thursday, January 19TH in the chapel with the Rev. Thomas Lockhart officiating.  BURIAL will take place at Cherokee Memorial Park.   In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Roswell Street Baptist Church, 774 Roswell Street, Marietta, GA 30060; or to the Alzheimer's Association Georgia Chapter, 41 Perimeter Center East, Suite 550, Atlanta, GA 30346.
