John W. Carmichael, 78, of Marietta, died Monday, January 16, 2012. A Cobb County native, Mr. Carmichael lived in Marietta for most of his life and was a member of Roswell Street Baptist Church. He served his country in the U.S. Marine Corps. He worked for Westinghouse/Schindler Elevator Company in Atlanta for 38 years and Lowe's in Woodstock for 13 years. He was a baseball and softball coach at Shaw Park, and a leader of the Sprayberry Football Booster Club. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, and was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Elizabeth Brown Carmichael of Marietta; daughter Sandra Carmichael of Acworth; son Dan & Robyn Carmichael of Canton; son Steve & Elizabeth Carmichael of Lawrenceville; 8 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild. The family will receive friends from 4:00 until 8:00 PM Wednesday, January 18th at Darby Funeral Home, 480 Main Street, Canton, Ga. 30114 and the service will be held at 2:00 Thursday, January 19TH in the chapel with the Rev. Thomas Lockhart officiating. BURIAL will take place at Cherokee Memorial Park.
