Obituary

Mike Cagle left this earth for his heavenly home on June 13, 2026, after a long illness.

A lifelong resident of Cherokee County, he is preceded in death by his parents Lawarance and Melbaree Cagle. Mike attended Holly Springs Elementary School, Cherokee High School, and graduated from the University of Georgia with a degree in English.

Mike had many talents and interests. He was a musician who played with several bands, including Pressure and The Polecat Mountain Band. Along with his friend Jim Drinkard, he placed 3rd in the GPTV State Talent Show in the 1982. He could play almost any instrument, but his favorite was his Martin guitar.

While in Athens, Mike met Darlene Adams. They later married and raised three sons: Will, John, and Zach.

Mike’s love of photography began as a hobby and became a career. Through his work with the Cherokee Tribune and his studio, he captured countless moments in Cherokee County. If you grew up here, there’s a good chance Mike photographed you at a wedding, a ballgame, a school event, or for a newspaper story.

Mike lived life his own way and was a friend to many. He had stories about everyone, and everyone seemed to have a story about Mike. We would love to hear them, so please share your memories with the family.

In his later years, Mike enjoyed spending time with his five grandchildren, especially playing cards and checkers. He was a thoughtful gift giver and would choose perfect gifts for everyone each Christmas. Like most of his male peers he was loyal fan of SEC Football, Fox News, Gunsmoke, and The Andy Griffith Show.

Mike will be remembered by many as the man behind the camera and the guitar, but to his family, he was simply Pops.

Mike is survived by his children: Will (Alison) Cagle, John (Megan) Cagle, Zack Cagle; and his grandchildren: Cole (Kerri), Caleb, Christian, Maddie, Hollis and Henry.

Funeral Services in honor and celebration of Mike's life will be held on Thursday, June 17, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Darby Funeral Home with Rev. Randy Weaver officiation. The family will receive friends for visitation on Wednesday, June 17, 2026, from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., and on Thursday, June 17, 2026, from 12:00 p.m. until the funeral hour.

The caring staff of Darby Funeral Home is honored to serve the family of Mr. Johnny Michael "Mike" Cagle.
