Obituary

Joseph Mastroserio, age 90, of Canton, Georgia, passed away on Wednesday, March 18, 2026, at Tranquility at Kennesaw Mountain.

Joseph was a proud graduate of The Citadel, The Military College of South Carolina, where he earned a degree in Political Science in 1958 on a full four-year scholarship. During his time at The Citadel, he was selected for the prestigious Summerall Guards, an elite precision drill unit recognized for its excellence and honor. He also served as the 2nd Battalion Executive Officer from 1957 to 1958 and was an active member of the Newnan Club and the track team.

Joseph honorably served his country as a Captain in the United States Army, where he was stationed at Checkpoint Charlie in Berlin during the Cold War, guarding the Berlin Wall during a critical period in history. Following his military service, he furthered his education by earning a master’s degree in business administration from Fairleigh Dickinson University.

He is survived by his daughters, Patty (Scott McElroy) Baker of Canton, Georgia, and Denise Mastroserio of Canton, Georgia; his sister, Antoinette Mastroserio-Jack of Delaware; and his brother, Michael (Judy) Mastroserio of New Jersey. Grandchildren, Taylor Baker, Lexie Caudill (Grayson), Cole Mirabella, Elise Mirabella, Madisyn McElroy and Max McElroy. Preceding him in death was his wife Ann-Marie of 62 yrs. and son Joseph Jr.

The family will receive friends for visitation at Darby Funeral Home on Thursday, April 23, 2026, from 11:30 AM to 12:30 PM, followed by a funeral service at 12:30 PM in the Chapel. A graveside service with military honors will follow at 2:30 PM at Georgia National Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to The Citadel Foundation in Joseph’s memory.
