Obituary

Joyce Louise Hines, 87, of Woodstock, Georgia, formerly of Dayton, Ohio, passed away peacefully on April 27, 2026, in Acworth, Georgia. Born on July 17, 1938, she was the beloved daughter of Agnes and Harold French.

Joyce was the cherished mother to Leslie Ross (Tracy), Debbie Touart (Wayne), and Kelli Lambertson. She was a devoted grandmother to John (Katy), Michael, and Chris Stewart, Evan Touart, and Avery Lambertson, a proud great-grandmother to Alexis, Aubrey, John Jr. (JJ), Kara, Elena, and Anthony Stewart. She will also be lovingly remembered by her sisters Lois Hedrick, Linda Cridlin (Clyde) and Yovnne Hines, as well as dear friends Billy and Pat Caviness and Linda Kotrick.

A graduate of Patterson Co-op High School in Dayton, Joyce met and married the love of her life, Jim Hines, sharing 56 wonderful years together. As an only child who married into a family of eight, she delighted in large family gatherings, including sibling trips to the Outerbanks, and treasured vacations to Jonesville, Virginia and Gatlinburg, Tennessee.

She was a dedicated professional who worked as an executive secretary for the Simmons Mattress Company, from which she retired, and previously for The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, and The Dayton Daily News. Her strong sense of community extended into her volunteer work at Johnston Elementary in Woodstock, Georgia, Alpharetta First Baptist Church and Crestview Baptist Church in Dayton, Ohio.

She was known for her joyful spirit and her love of holiday decorating and baking created countless warm memories for her family and friends. Always stylish and festive, she celebrated each season with enthusiasm and heart. Joyce will be remembered for her warmth, generosity, faith and unwavering devotion to her family.

A visitation will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Monday June 8, 2026, followed by a service at 12:30 p.m. at Darby Funeral Home in Canton, Georgia. Following the service, internment will take place at the Georgia National Cemetery in Canton, Georgia.
