Karen Elizabeth Robertson, age 84, of Canton, Georgia, passed away peacefully on Friday, March 6, 2026, surrounded by family at Tranquility at Kennesaw Mountain in Marietta, Georgia.
Karen was born on June 30, 1941, in Harvey, Illinois, to the late Harold and Lelia Dawson. Her father, a train engineer for Illinois Central Railroad, moved the family to Vicksburg, Mississippi in response to freight volumes more than doubling in the region post-World War II. As a product of a working-class family, she grew up with a strong work ethic and tremendous discipline that guided her throughout her life. She could also stick to a budget like few others - frugality being her special sauce. As the oldest child of two, she grew up with a strong sense of responsibility that influenced her entire life. She never failed to put a family member's or friend's needs above her own. She was forever loyal to her family and friends and only God is more giving and forgiving.
Karen graduated from The University of Mississippi with a degree in business. She was actively involved on campus as a member of multiple clubs and honor societies, including serving as Vice President of her sorority Alpha Omicron Pi. Karen went on to build a successful career as an accountant from which she retired at the age of 78. She was known for her hard work, intelligence, diligence, integrity, and attention to detail…and most possibly as the most outgoing and personable accountant to have graced this earth.
Beyond her professional life, Karen was devoted to her Christian faith and family and cherished the time she spent with those she loved. She was an active member of her church everywhere she lived, but most recently in High Point North Carolina, where she spent the majority of the last 25 years sharing her talents and serving the Lord. She will always be remembered for her love and kindness she gave so freely to all those around her. She found great joy in being a wife of 45 years to husband, Bill Robertson, and mother to her 2 children and grandmother to her 8 grandchildren.
She is survived by her loving husband, William Michael Robertson of Canton, Georgia; her son, Todd (Shannon) Henderson of Dallas, Texas; her daughter, Kristi (Mike) Zito of Milton, Georgia; and her cherished grandchildren, William Henderson, Charlotte Henderson, Camille Henderson, Elise Henderson, Cristina Zito, Michael Zito, Patrick Zito, and Caroline Zito. She is also survived by her niece, Mariah Dawson of Indiana, and her nephew, Eric Dawson.
Karen's memory will live on in the hearts of her family and all who knew and loved her. A memorial service will be held on Sunday, March 29th at 4 pm, with visitation to be held from 3 pm to 4 pm at Darby Funeral Home located at 480 E Main St in Canton, GA.
