Latana "Tana" Katerina
Powell
May 26, 1978 — Aug 12, 2026
Latana was a loving daughter, mother, sister, and cherished member of her family whose life was filled with love, curiosity, kindness, and purpose. She will be remembered for her bright mind, generous heart, and the many lives she touched.
As a child, Latana loved to play games, especially board games, and she loved spending time outside. On rainy days, she would find creative ways to keep us entertained. One of our favorite memories was when she would take my clothes and use the money from the Monopoly game. She would give me Monopoly money and make me “buy” my clothes back. Those simple childhood moments became memories that will always be treasured.
Latana had a love for mystery and adventure from a young age. Her favorite books included Nancy Drew and Sherlock Holmes. When we were little, she would dress up as Sherlock Holmes and Watson, and together we would solve mysteries throughout the house. She was always curious, imaginative, and ready for the next adventure.
Our childhood was also filled with entrepreneurial adventures. We would bake cookies and sell them around the neighborhood, turning our little ideas into something fun and memorable.
As Latana grew older, her compassion for others became even more evident. She developed a deep love for animals and spent time helping at animal shelters. She was also involved with 4-H clubs and libraries, always finding ways to learn, serve, and make a difference.
Latana was an exceptional student. She was consistently on the honor roll and challenged herself by taking AP classes. She was intelligent, determined, and always had a plan for each day. She carried that same dedication into every part of her life.
Of all the roles she held, being a mother was among the most important to her. She loved being a mom and a teacher to her children, guiding them, caring for them, and helping them learn and grow.
Latana leaves behind five children and two stepchildren, along with a loving family and many others whose lives were touched by her presence.
Her life was a gift, and her memory will live on through her children, her family, the lessons she taught, and the countless memories she created with those she loved.
Latana will be deeply missed, but she will never be forgotten. We will carry her love, her laughter, her wisdom, and the beautiful memories of her with us always.
Rest peacefully, Latana. You were deeply loved, and you always will be.
