Linda Elizabeth Pruett, of Canton, passed away on May 15th, 2026, at the age of 86. She was born in Canton, Georgia, January 31st, 1940, at Cokers Hospital.
She was the first child to Luke and Berma Mode of Canton. She was the first grandchild to Arthur and Dolly Mode, both of Canton. She was the third grandchild to William (W.H.) and Mattie Hitt, also both of Canton. She grew up on “Route 4” in Canton now known as Bells Ferry Road. She attended elementary school in the Oakdale community. She was gifted as a child and skipped the 3rd grade. She attended Canton High School for 3 years and then attended and graduated from Cherokee High School, the first year it was open in 1956-57. She was very involved with marching band in high school and with her church, First Baptist Church of Canton. She graduated from Reinhardt University in 1959 with an associate's degree.
In 1959, she met and married her husband of 54 years, John H. Pruett, who was from Atlanta. She often said she married him “because he was very good looking.” Her first child, Robin Pruett, was born in 1960 and her second child, John H. Pruett, Jr., was born in 1973. She spent most of her adult life raising her children and supporting her husband as he founded and operated his construction business in Marietta, John H. Pruett Construction, Co. Inc.
She was very proud of her home and estate on Bells Ferry Road where she lived from 1972 to 2010. She loved gardening, flowers and plants and truly had a green thumb. She also enjoyed poetry and reading. After her daughter Robin passed in 2000 she and her husband spent several years looking after their grandchildren, Natalie and Julian Jeffery. She also supported her husband through many hobbies and adventures which included motorcycle racing and hunting. The thing she enjoyed and cherished most in this life was being married to her husband, John H. Pruett, and described him as “the love of my life.”
Linda was preceded in death by her grandparents, Arthur and Dolly Mode, and William (W.H.) and Mattie Hitt, parents, Luke and Berma Mode, daughter Robin Pruett Jeffery, brother Dickie Mode, and her beloved husband John H. Pruett, all of Canton. She is survived by her son, John H. Pruett, Jr. and his wife Brinne Pruett; granddaughters, Delaney Pruett and Reece Pruett, all of Canton. She is also survived by her grandson, Julian Jeffery, of Annapolis, Maryland, and her granddaughter, Natalie Jeffery, of Baltimore, Maryland. She is also survived by her brother, David Mode and his wife Nancy Mode, of Roswell, Georgia.
Special thanks given to The Retreat at Canton where Linda lived the last 4 years. It was truly remarkable how well she was cared for there.
