Retired Major General William H. Fitts, age 86, of Marietta, Georgia died December 10, 2014.
General Fitts was a U.S. Army veteran serving in Germany, Korea,
Vietnam and numerous state-side posts over a period of 34 years. After retirement from the Army he worked as administrator of an Atlanta law firm for ten years. He had the rare distinction of serving in the Army in every enlisted grade from Private to Master Sergeant and every officer grade from 2nd Lieutenant to Major General. He was the recipient of over 30 military awards and decorations including the Distinguished Service Medal, two Bronze Stars and four awards of the Legion of Merit.
General Fitts graduated from Canton, Georgia High School in 1944 and received a BS degree from the University of Nebraska and an MBA from George Washington University. He also was a graduate of the US Army War College.
He was a member of the Military Officers Association, the American Legion and several Aid and Assistance Associations.
He is survived by his loving wife; Marilyn Fitts of Marietta, GA, son; Robert Fitts of Marietta, GA, daughters; Kathryn Fitts, Tina Crisp
and Leslie Reeves of Woodstock, GA., and nine grandchildren: Madison and McKenzie Fitts; Griffin and Kailyn Fittsporter; Mathew, Daniel and Michael Crisp; and Austin and Rachel Reeves.
Services will be held at 9:00AM at Darby Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Art Wilder officiating. General Fitts will be interred at the Georgia
National Cemetery in Canton, GA. Following funeral services he will be buried with full military honors. The family will receive friends at the Darby Funeral Home from 2:00P.M. to 4:00PM on Sunday December 14, 2014. Family request in lieu of flowers donations be made to Multiple Sclerosis Foundation.
