Margaret Alice Nelson, age 92, of Ball Ground, Georgia, passed away peacefully on Monday, October 19, 2026.
Margaret was born on August 25, 1934, in Mississippi, to the late Carroll and Leoma Middleton.
Margaret dedicated many years of her life to education, serving as an English teacher in Mississippi, Alabama, and Georgia. Her love for the English language didn't end when she left the classroom. She had a wonderful eye for grammar, and even a good book wasn't safe from her proofreading skills! She would read with a pen in hand, underlining grammatical errors along the way. Once an English teacher, always an English teacher! Her love of teaching also extended to her church, where she was a devoted member of First Baptist Canton and faithfully taught the Ladies' Sunday School Class for many years.
Above all, Margaret treasured her family. She found great joy in spending time with those she loved, especially her grandchildren, who held a special place in her heart. Her love for her family, her dedication to education, and her steadfast faith were defining parts of a life well lived. She will be fondly remembered for her wit, her love of learning, and the many lives she touched throughout her 92 years.
In addition to her parents, Margaret was preceded in death by her loving husband, Kenneth Allen Nelson; her son, Ronnie Nelson; and her brother, Don Middleton.
She is survived by her sons, Jeffery (Leigh) Nelson of Talking Rock, Georgia, and Jamie (Jamie Lynn) Nelson of Dawsonville, Georgia; her beloved grandchildren, Anna (Brady) Bennett, Ashley Nelson, Amanda Nelson, Chase Nelson, Kenny Nelson, and Elena Nelson; her sister, Dina (Raymond) Rushing of McComb, Mississippi; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends who will cherish her memory.
Funeral services honoring and celebrating Margaret's life will be held on Thursday, October 22, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Darby Funeral Home, with Pastor Keith Egner officiating. The family will receive friends for visitation at the funeral home from 10:00 a.m. until the funeral hour. Interment will follow at Cherokee Memorial Park, where Margaret will be laid to rest.
The caring staff of Darby Funeral Home is honored to serve the family of Mrs. Margaret Alice Nelson.
