With deep sorrow, yet with the unshakable hope found in Jesus Christ, we announce the passing of Marianne Karnes, who entered into the presence of her Lord and Savior on July 2, 2026, at the age of 75.
Born and raised in Kalamazoo, Michigan, Marianne lived a life marked by faith, love, compassion, and service. Her relationship with Jesus Christ was the foundation of her life, and she faithfully shared the Gospel with everyone she met. Whether through a heartfelt conversation, a sincere prayer, or a simple act of kindness, Marianne’s greatest desire was for others to know the saving grace of Christ.
Marianne enjoyed a life of caring for others in both her professional and personal life. Early in her career, she served as a flight attendant with Eastern Airlines, where she welcomed and cared for travelers with warmth, professionalism, and grace. She later dedicated many years to education as a pre-kindergarten teacher at Little People’s Corner, nurturing young minds with patience, kindness, and encouragement. In the years that followed, she continued serving children as a school bus attendant, providing a caring and reassuring presence for the students she accompanied each day. She believed every child deserved to be loved, encouraged, and treated with dignity, and she carried that belief into every aspect of her work.
Those who knew Marianne will remember her gentle spirit, generous heart, and unwavering faith. She was a devoted mother whose prayers, wisdom, and unconditional love were a constant source of strength. Her life reflected the love of Christ, and her example inspired many to grow in their own faith.
Marianne is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Paul and Amy Karnes, and her grandchildren, Brennan Karnes, Alexcia Fowler, Anastyn Karnes, Brantley Karnes, and Bennett Karnes, who will forever cherish her love, guidance, and the Christian example she faithfully set. Though her passing leaves an immeasurable void, there is comfort in knowing that she is now home with the Savior she loved and served throughout her life. She has also been joyfully reunited in heaven with her beloved husband, Rick Karnes, who preceded her in death in 2002. Together again in the presence of the Lord, they now share the eternal peace and joy promised to all who trust in Jesus Christ.
A visitation and memorial service celebrating Marianne’s life will be held on Friday, July 10, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at New Covenant Bible Church. Family and friends are invited to gather to remember her life, celebrate her legacy, and rejoice in the hope of eternal life through Jesus Christ. Interment will follow at Cherokee Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Foundation in Marianne’s honor, supporting its mission to provide care, support, and research for those affected by Alzheimer’s disease.
Marianne’s life is beautifully reflected in the words of Scripture:
“I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.” — 2 Timothy 4:7
She finished her race faithfully, and her reward is now complete in the presence of her Lord.
“Well done, good and faithful servant.” — Matthew 25:23
The caring staff of Darby Funeral Home is honored to serve the family of Ms. Marianne Boyer Karnes.
