It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Mark Edward Goebel, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend. Mark left us on the morning of October 26th, after a long and courageous battle with prostate cancer.
Mark was born on November 23, 1949, in Troy, New York, and passed away surrounded by family in Canton, Georgia. He is preceded in death by his parents, George and Florence, and four siblings: George Ronald, Roselyn (Mahoney), Kathleen (Cure), and Cheryl (Fecura). He is survived by one sister, Margaret Morelli of Watervliet, NY.
Mark grew up in Cohoes, New York, and attended La Salle Military Institute. He served as a Sergeant in the U.S. Army from 1970 to 1974, stationed in Augusta, Georgia, and Okinawa, Japan.
Mark met the love of his life, Carol (Jannicelli), when they were both teenagers. Married in 1971, their bond remained unbreakable and lasted until the very end. Together, they had four children: Tracy Boomhower (Brad), Gina Mickler (Todd), Mark II (Sarah), and Nick (Lauren).
Mark enjoyed a successful career as a business professional, dedicating 23 years to General Electric, followed by roles at IBM and SITA. He was known for his unwavering work ethic and passion for innovation. His career took him around the world, working in locations such as Dubai, London, India, and Spain.
Mark had a passion for technology and loved showing off his latest gadgets. He loved having all the best tools and he was the family handy-man. Mark was able to fix anything and was always willing to drop everything to help his family and friends with whatever project they were working on.
Later in life, Mark pursued his dream of flying helicopters, sharing the experience by taking family members on rides as a training pilot.
Mark also loved automobiles, with his last car, a Tesla, being his most treasured possession. He delighted in customizing it and he could talk for hours about every feature with great joy.
A devoted grandpa, Mark cherished every moment spent with his eight grandchildren: Bradley, Elizabeth, Ashlyn, Emily, Mia, Brody, Rowan, and Asher. He was a regular at their school activities and sporting events, finding immense joy in watching them grow and succeed. In the last days of his life, he became a great-grandfather and was able to see pictures of his great-grandchild, Bailey.
Throughout his life, Mark faced challenges with a fighting spirit. He passed away demonstrating that same resilience, fighting until the very end. Mark Edward Goebel will be dearly missed, but his legacy of love and strength will live on in the hearts of his family and friends.
