Martha "June" Phillips, aged 101, of Canton, Georgia died September 3rd, 2024 in Hoschton Georgia.
Born June 11, 1923, June was the second of three children of Palmer M. Phillips and Vivian Garner Phillips. Born in Canton, Georgia, the family moved frequently for work. After graduating from Canton High School in 1940, June worked in various secretarial positions, such as the private secretary for the Commanding General of the Third Army based at Fort McPherson Georgia.
June met Rudolph "Rudy" Phillips in high school, and they became engaged their senior year. Six months later, the Pearl Harbor attack happened. The couple, knowing Rudy would be going to war soon, decided to get married that day. But the marriage occurred after midnight at the Justice of the Peace, so their anniversary is December 8, 1941. They were married for 77 years until Rudy's passing.
June had a way of making anything fun. She loved spending time with her family and had the ability to make each one of them feel special. June enjoyed painting and was a talented artist. She was an avid golfer winning the USGA Georgia Division championship for her age group. She and Rudy loved travel, gourmet cooking and ballroom dancing. June was always proud of her brother, Jack, who was a professional baseball player and in the Cherokee County Sports Hall of Fame.
She was preceded in death by her husband Rudy and her brothers Jack and Teddy Neil. She is survived by her son Jerry Phillips and daughter in law Josephine Phillips of Buford Georgia, grand-children Brian (Julie) Phillips and Ashley (Molly) Phillips; great-grand-children Amelia (Cameron) Powell, Madison (Reed) Tipton, Mitchell (Kennedy) Phillips, Gibson Phillips, Stephen (Jacqueline) Phillips, David Phillips, and Hudson Phillips and great-great-grand-children Blair Tipton and Ransom Powell.
