Maurice Thurman, age 62, passed away on December 30, 2025, in Colorado Springs, Colorado.
Born in Atlanta, Georgia, in 1963, Maurice—known affectionately as Reese—answered the call to serve his country at a young age by enlisting in the United States Army. He dedicated more than 20 years of honorable service to the Army, building a distinguished military career defined by leadership, discipline, and unwavering commitment. A veteran of the First Gulf War, Reese served with distinction and retired in Colorado Springs at the rank of Master Sergeant. His service reflected a deep sense of duty to his country and profound respect for the soldiers with whom he served.
Beyond his military accomplishments, Reese was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He is survived by his loving wife, Lisa Thurman; his son, Maurice Thurman; his daughter, Ashley Little; and his six beloved grandchildren, who brought him immense joy and pride. Family was the foundation of his life, and he remained steadfast in his love and dedication to them.
Reese was an avid sports fan and found great fulfillment in coaching football and basketball, where he shared not only his knowledge of the game but also the values of teamwork, discipline, and perseverance. He was widely known for his sense of humor, warm spirit, and ability to bring laughter to those around him.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, January 12, 2026, at Darby Funeral Home, 480 E. Main Street, Canton, GA 30114. A public viewing will take place from 9:00 AM to 10:45 AM, followed by the service, concluding at 12:00 PM.
On January 23, 2026, at 2:00 PM, Maurice Thurman will be laid to rest with full military honors, including a rifle volley and the playing of Taps, in recognition of his faithful and honorable service to the United States Army.
Maurice Thurman's legacy of service, love, and laughter will forever live on in the hearts of his family, friends, and all who were privileged to know him. He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.
