Michael Joseph Mcnamara's Obituary

Michael Joseph McNamara, born March 24, 1969, in Queens, New York, passed away peacefully surrounded by love on July 18, 2025. He was 56 years of age.

Mike, known to many by his Irish name Aonghus, was a man of many passions and immeasurable talents. In his mundane life he worked remotely for Daktronics Inc. of Brookings, South Dakota, where his diligence and innovation were widely respected.

As a founding member of Tuatha de Bhriain (TDB), a 5th-century Irish re-creation society formed in 1986, Mike served as its Chieftain for many years. His leadership helped shape the very soul of the group. As a mentor, craftsman, poet, composer, scholar, fighter, and friend, Mike was more than a pillar—he was the heart of the community and as Brogan said "He was the best of us, Bundnahai!"

Michael was a perpetual student of life: an avid reader, a lover of history, a poet, a chef, a gardener, a woodworker, and a passionate food critic and an avid gamer. He loved Dungeons & Dragons, playing countless characters over many years, and found joy and camaraderie through storytelling and dice rolls. He also operated a guild in the World of Warcraft universe, thriving in the friendships and adventures it brought. Mike was passionate about tabletop games like Mordheim, meticulously crafting and painting miniatures and keeping track of their stats, as well as classic board games like Settlers of Catan. Many times, he would set up a game night in the shop of the family business, Victory Auto Glass, and play deep into the night with friends who shared his love for gaming. It is no secret that he had a lifelong passion for computer programming, diving into the digital world long before it became mainstream.
Inspired by the film WarGames, he tried his hand at hacking as a young man—driven not by mischief, but by a pure curiosity and fascination with how things worked behind the screen. His curiosity was boundless, his laughter unforgettable, and his generosity unmatched. That early spark of wonder never left him.
Before his passing, Michael and Georgine celebrated their bond in a traditional Irish hand-fasting ceremony, pledging their devotion to one another in a deeply personal and spiritual union.
He is survived by his loving partner Georgine Johns, and her son Kevin. He leaves behind his adored mother Linda McNamara; his sister Eileen McNamara Logan and her husband Kevin; his brother Richard McNamara and his wife Tia; his nephew Reese Logan, nieces Sadie and Livia McNamara; and step-nephews Jake Reinhardt and significant other Kathryn Douglas and Clay Reinhardt his wife Mariah along with step-great-niece Everleigh Reinhardt. He was predeceased by his father Joseph Dennis McNamara in 2018
A Memorial Service will be held on Sunday, August 10th,2025 from 6:00PM to 8:00 PM at Johnston's Wellwood Funeral Home.
