Michael "Mike" Emmett Shumate, 72, of Canton passed away Sunday November 8th, 2020. Mike is survived by the love his life, Pamela Shumate (Sellers), son Brad Shumate, daughter Amy (Adam) Strayhorn, brother Tommy Shumate of Frisco, Texas, brother Terry Shumate of Meridian, Mississippi, grandson Patrick Blalock, granddaughter Ansley Strayhorn and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his father Tommie Shumate and mother Sara "Grace" Shumate (Thornell) of Jackson, Mississippi.

Mike was born in Meridian, Mississippi, 1948. He grew up in Jackson, Mississippi and attended Forest Hill High School where he excelled in academics and sports. After high school, he proudly served in the United States Air Force, receiving the Air Medal and the Distinguished Flying Cross. Later in life, Mike enjoyed working in the sales and travel center industry for many years. He enjoyed attending sporting events with family and friends, his favorite being University of Georgia football games - GO DAWGS! Most of all he loved his family, he loved his life.

Services will be scheduled at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to the Cherokee County Animal Shelter or Mostly Mutts Animal Rescue and Adoption are welcome.
