Mr. Millard Boyd Kerce, age 87, formerly of Fernandina Beach, FL and former longtime resident of Kennesaw, GA passed away on Wednesday evening, August 29, 2012 at the Hospice of the Comforter in Altamonte Springs, FL, a suburb of Orlando, FL.
Born in Bartow County, Kingston, GA, near Cartersville, GA, he was the son of the late, Ed L. and Byrd Shaw Kerce. At the age of nineteen, Boyd enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1944. After serving at duty stations in Atlanta, GA and NAS Mayport, FL and in Port Ledo, Africa, as a Seaman First Class, he was honorably discharged in 1946. In 1952, he joined Lockheed Martin Aircraft Corporation in Marietta, GA. He remained with Lockheed for the next 35 years until retiring in 1987 at the age of 62 as Flight Line Inspector. While residents of Kennesaw, the Kerce's were longtime active members of St. Stephen United Methodist Church in Marietta.
In 2007, Mr. Kerce and his wife moved to Amelia Island, FL. While living on Amelia Island, they were members of the Nassau Nazarene Fellowship.
Mr. Kerce leaves behind, his wife of 55 years, Ruby Pettyjohn Kerce, Orlando, FL, their daughters, Gail Smith, Orlando, FL, Stacy Parks (David), Alpharetta, GA and two granddaughters, Lindsay and Erin Parks.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am on Tuesday, September 4, 2012 from St. Stephen United Methodist Church, 636 Roswell Street, Marietta, GA with Reverend Claude Smithmeyer, officiating.
Mr. Kerce will be laid to rest in Georgia National Cemetery, Canton, GA.
His family will receive friends on Monday, from 5:00 – 8:00 pm at the Darby-Huey Funeral Home, 480 East Main Street, Canton, GA.
