Dr. Neil Timm, age 68, of Ball Ground GA, passed away peacefully in his sleep on July 22, 2015. Neil was a loving husband, father, brother and son and will be greatly missed by his family and friends. Neil was a former English professor, with a B.A. from Cornell University and his Ph.D. from Columbia University. After a career in college teaching, he became a computer network engineer for Bell Labs, AT&T, Microsoft, and two companies that he co-founded – Light Networks and QOS Networks. He retired in 2004.
Neil was devoted to music. He was a talented multi instrumentalist and vocalist. He enjoyed playing various instruments, singing and listening. Neil had an exceptional ear, and played trumpet, guitar, and piano. He also enjoyed strumming the mandolin, banjo, dobro, ukulele and classical guitar. He harmonized and improvised effortlessly, and made family sing-a-longs a Timm tradition. Neil served as a Lay Eucharist Minister at St. Clement's Episcopal Church in Canton. He enjoyed being in the mountains, organic gardening and working on "Maggie's Farm" with his wife, raising goats, chickens, dogs, and cats on their six-acre hobby farm.
Neil is survived by his wife of 35 years, Stephanie Timm of Ball Ground, GA; their four children, Laura Branch of Austin, TX, Leigh Wynne of Durham, NC, Emily Miller of Portland, OR, and Stephen Timm of Atlanta, GA; two grand daughters, Adele and Corinne Branch of Austin, TX; his brother, the Rev. Allen Timm of Grosse Point, MI; his sister, Mary Hinkle of Hershey, PA; and his nieces and nephews.
The Memorial Service and Celebration of his Life will be held on Saturday, September 19, at 3:00 PM at St. Clement's Episcopal Church, 2795 Ridge Rd., Canton, GA 30114.
