Pauletta Lee Payne, 91 of Canton, GA., passed away Saturday, June 8, 2024, at Village Park Milton.
Mrs. Payne was born on a farm outside Claremore, OK., which is the home of Will Rogers and the Will Rogers Memorial.
She married Jerry Ray Payne, Sr. on May 2, 1952. They were married for 72 years. During their marriage, they lived in Fort McClellan Army Base, AL., Pensacola, FL., Minneapolis, MN, Nashville, TN., Chattanooga, TN., Milton, GA., and Canton, GA.
Mrs. Payne went to Tahlequah State College in Oklahoma, Pensacola Junior College and the University of West Florida in Pensacola, FL.
She was an excellent and competitive golfer who made three (3) "Hole-in Ones." She was also an excellent flower arranger and cook, often using her many made up recipes. In addition, Mrs. Payne played tennis and loved bowling.
She is survived by:
Husband – Jerry Ray Payne, Sr. of Canton, GA.
Daughter – Rebecca Payne who was born in Fort McClelland Post Hospital, AL.
Son – Rusty Payne who was born in Pensacola, FL.
Grandchild – Zachary Payne, a Dentist in Charleston, S.C.
Grandchild – Rachel Payne Hagan, an architect in Nashville, TN.
Daughter-in-Law – Sylvia P. Payne who retired from her career with the FBI after 47 years.
Grandson-in-Law – Spencer Hagan
A graveside service will be held Monday, June 17th at 10:30a.m. at Georgia National Cemetery with Chris Collett officiating.
There will be a gathering after the service at Darby Funeral Home with BBQ and fixings.
