Percy Warner Ligon, Jr., 79, of Canton, GA, passed away peacefully on December 17, 2024, surrounded by his loving wife of 50 years, Judy, his son, David, and daughter, Tammy.
He is survived by his devoted wife, Judy Nunnally Ligon; his children, Tim (Kim) Ligon, Jeff (Debbie) Ligon, David (Anjinita) Ligon, and Tammy Ligon; ten grandchildren, Conner (Sarah) Ligon, Becca (Matt) Barron, Hannah (Mirko) Schüetze, Katelyn (Tony) Betsill, Ellie Ligon, Summer Ligon, Brooke Ligon, James Ligon, Gavin Ligon, and Eli Ligon-White; and three great-grandchildren, Jameson Percy "JP" Barron, Harper Barron, and Eleanor "Elle" Ligon. He is also survived by his niece, Suzy Harker; nephew, Chris Harker; and great-nieces, Leah and Madison Harker.
Percy was preceded in death by his parents, Percy Warner Ligon, Sr. and Suzy Ardis York Ligon, and his sister, Pamela Ligon Harker Landyshev.
A proud U.S. Marine Corps veteran, Percy served at Guantanamo Bay. He dedicated 32 years to public service as a firefighter, serving with the City of Atlanta Fire Department and retiring as a Fire Captain with the Fulton County Fire Department. Percy also served as a sign language interpreter for the deaf and deaf-blind, a Sunday school teacher, and a Royal Ambassadors leader. He was a member of Sandtown Baptist Church in College Park, GA.
Percy loved his wife, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren to his core. To know him was to love him and to be loved in return. He was a man of great integrity and will be missed dearly by so many.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, December 29, 2024, from 2:00–5:00 PM at Darby Funeral Home in Canton, GA. Funeral services will take place on Monday, December 30, 2024, at 12:30 PM in the chapel of Darby Funeral Home, followed by interment at 2:30 PM at the Georgia National Cemetery in Canton, GA. The fire department will provide pall bearers throughout the service and the USMC will provide Flag service and 21-gun salute.
