Rae DiFatta Becknel passed away on June 24, 2026 at the age of 87.

Born in New Orleans, Louisiana to John and Genevive DiFatta, Rae grew up enjoying spending summers with extended family at their fish camp. Her early life taking road trips with family helped ignite her love of travel.

While still in high school, Rae was out with friends and met Jerry, who quickly became the love of her life. After knowing each other for 4 weeks, they ran off to Poplarville Mississippi and got married. During their 70 year marriage, Rae and Jerry moved to Tennessee, Florida, Georgia, California then settled back in Georgia. One of Rae's proudest accomplishments was raising their son, Jay, whom she loved beyond measure.

Rae enjoyed gardening, golf and travel. She was the President of her neighborhood garden club. Later in the marriage she had a group of lady friends that would get together a couple of times a week to golf and "cut up". She took may trips including Hawaii, Japan, Europe, the Caribbean and her all-time favorite trip to Australia and New Zealand. She made friends in all of her travels and leaves many friends throughout the world.

Rae lived her life following the motto "Never give up." This was the only advice she freely offered up to those she encountered.

Rae is survived by her husband Gerald (Jerry) Becknel, son Gerald (Jay)Becknel, Jr (Moureen) three grandchildren Gerald (Jayson) Becknel III, Zachary Becknel (Sarah) Elyse Nicholson (Caleb) and four great grandchildren.

She is proceeded in death by her parents and her infant twin daughters.

The family will receive friends for visitation on Monday, July 6, 2026, from 10:00am to 12:00pm at Darby Funeral Home. Mrs. Becknel will be laid to rest at Georgia National Cemetery where a graveside service will be held following the visitation at 1:00pm.
