Ramon Merlyn Mcleod, 95, of Canton, GA passed away on Sunday, July 21, 2024 at his residence. He was born in Americus, GA on January 14, 1929 to Luther and Ruth McLeod. Ramon grew up in Albany, GA and after graduating from Albany High School he attended Brevard College before transferring to the Georgia Institute of Technology where he earned two degrees in Electrical Engineering and Industrial Engineering. He was also enlisted in the Navy ROTC at that time and began active service in the Navy immediately following graduation. After leaving the Navy, Ramon spent most of his professional career as an Electrical Engineer for General Electric Company and retired in 1991.
Ramon married Mary Jeanne Fuller of Atlanta, GA in 1953 and they celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary on November 28, 2023. He is survived by his wife, Jeanne, and his four children: Ramon Michael McLeod (Dianne) of Ball Ground, GA; Wade Lawrence McLeod (Luanne) of Vidalia, GA; Dawn Rae Collins (Matthew) of Lee, MA; and Laura Jeanne Poland (David) of Canton, GA as well as 13 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, and two nieces Kay Salemi and Patricia Mazanec. Ramon was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Luther McLeod, and an infant sister.
Ramon and Jeanne raised their four children primarily in Rome, GA and after retirement moved to Eatonton, GA on Lake Oconee where he was able to pursue his passion for the water and sailing that he found while in the Navy. He spent many hours sailing, fishing, and was an avid reader until he lost his vision due to Macular Degeneration. Ramon was a proud graduate of Georgia Tech and was a loyal alumni, fan and donor throughout his life instilling the same passion for the Yellow Jackets in his children and grandchildren. To this day there will often be a McLeod fan in the stands. Ramon was a loving and generous husband, father, and grandfather and will be greatly missed by his family.
Visitation hours will be held 12:30-2:00PM on Sunday, July 28, 2024 at Darby Funeral in Canton, GA with the memorial service immediately following at 2:00PM. The memorial service will be officiated by Ramon's grandson, Jeremy Green.
