Obituary

Rebecca "Becky" Delores Helms

Rebecca "Becky" Delores Helms, age 77, of Canton, Georgia, passed away peacefully on July 13, 2026. Born on August 17, 1948, in Albemarle, North Carolina, Becky was the beloved daughter of the late Wilma Ross and Grover Lambert.

Becky's life was a beautiful example of love, faith, and devotion. While in high school, she met the love of her life, David Helms. After dating for two years, the high school sweethearts were married during their senior year and went on to share more than 60 wonderful years together. Becky was a spirited cheerleader, and David played football—a fitting beginning to a lifelong partnership built on love, friendship, and unwavering commitment.

Becky embraced life with joy and enthusiasm. She loved to travel, especially taking cruises that allowed her to explore new places and create lasting memories. An avid reader, she belonged to two book clubs and cherished both the stories she read and the friendships she made through them. Becky had a gift for hospitality. She loved opening her home, entertaining family and friends, and making everyone feel welcome.

Her faith was the cornerstone of her life. Becky treasured her church family and found great joy in singing in the church choir. She lived her faith through kindness, generosity, and a heart that always made room for others.

Above all else, Becky loved her family. She was a devoted wife, a loving mother, and a proud Nana. Some of her happiest moments were spent baking alongside her beloved granddaughter, Emma, creating not only delicious treats but treasured memories that will be cherished forever.

Becky is survived by her devoted husband of more than 60 years, David Helms of Canton, Georgia; her son Mark Anthony Helms and his wife Rita of Raleigh, North Carolina; her loving daughter, Robin Paulette Helms of Woodstock, Georgia; and her cherished granddaughter, Emma Lucille Helms. Though her presence will be deeply missed, her legacy of love, laughter, faith, and compassion will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew her.

A Memorial Service celebrating Becky's life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, July 20, 2026, in the Chapel of Darby Funeral Home, with Reverend Jerry Maxfield officiating. The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. until the hour of the service.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to the American Cancer Society or to Inspire Hospice, 4255 Wade Green Road, Suite 815, Kennesaw, GA 30144.

The family finds comfort in knowing that Becky's warm smile, joyful spirit, steadfast faith, and boundless love will remain forever in the hearts of those who were blessed to know her. She leaves behind a lifetime of precious memories and a legacy of kindness that will continue to inspire all who loved her.
