Obituary

Robert Earl 'Bob' Alderson, Sr. passed away peacefully on March 22, 2025, at his home in Canton, GA surrounded by family. Born on August 4, 1938, in Gallatin, TN, Bob was the beloved husband of 63 years to his precious wife, Marie. Their love story was an inspiration.

Bob graduated with a degree in civil engineering from the University of Tennessee in 1963. Soon after graduating, he started his own business, Pollution Control Equipment Co where he worked in the design and installation of water treatment facilities for over 50 years. He also earned a degree in law, got a pilot's license, and at the age of 73, he achieved a black belt in Taekwondo with his grandson.

Bob and Marie lived in Atlanta for many years before planting roots in Canton over forty years ago. Together they built a home that has hosted and continues to host many generations of extended family and friends from all over the world. Bob used his engineering expertise and took classes to become a general contractor to oversee all aspects of the home construction project, and he could explain in detail every part of the process. His organization skills were legendary.

Bob's legacy will live on in the family he raised, the stories he told and retold and his infectious sense of humor. His favorite stories revolved around his Mayberry-like small town outside of Nashville. He loved to sing, play the harmonica, read political intrigue novels, and make delicious chocolate malt shakes. In the last year of his life, one of his favorite pastimes was sharing chocolate chip cookies with his 3-year-old great grandson who called him Bob.

He is survived by his devoted wife, Marie, his children: Robert E. Alderson, Jr. (Laura), Elizabeth Alderson Campagna (Tom), three grandchildren: Sara Alderson Mattea (Alberto), Michael Campagna (Elise), Emily Campagna Graves (Daniel), three great grandchildren, brother-in-law, John Kell Martin III (Cindy) and numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, Lloyd and Louise Alderson, and his sister, Shirley Alderson Stockhoff.

Visitation will be at Darby Funeral Home in Canton on Saturday, March 29, 2025, from 4-6. Funeral services will be at Midway Community Church 3365 Francis Road, Alpharetta, GA on Sunday March 30, 2025, at 2 :00 followed by graveside service for family at Arlington Memorial Park.
