Robert "Bob" Gerald Lipscomb passed away peacefully at Tranquility Hospice on May 22, 2023. Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Robert Glen Lipscomb and Willie B Tippens Lipscomb of Canton, GA. He is survived by Susan Towery Lipscomb and their children, Leigh Ann Lipscomb of Chico, CA, David (Malinda) Lipscomb of Canton, GA, and Carrie (Scott) O'Bryant of Canton, GA. He is also survived by several grandchildren, Josh (Carson) O'Bryant, Jake (Abbie) O'Bryant, Christopher Lipscomb, Devin Kern, Iris Kern, Megan Lipscomb, Jonathan Lipscomb, and Emma O'Bryant, along with many cousins that he considered more like siblings.
Bob attended Cherokee High School, Reinhardt College, and the University of Georgia. Education was an integral part of his life, perhaps due to his deep connection to public education in Cherokee County. His mother, aunts, and uncles all played important roles in the school district as they served as teachers, principals, and Board of Education members. He served as a Deacon at Sardis Baptist Church, his cherished church since childhood.
Bob was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. His family always came first, and he made sure to instill in them the values he held dear. He was patient, kind, and always willing to lend a helping hand. He had a great sense of humor and could always make those around him laugh, even in the toughest of times. During his illness, his family found great peace in sharing "Bob" stories and laughing together.
Bob's love of photography took him on many adventures, capturing the beauty of nature and the essence of his community. This passion also provided an avenue by which he met and became loved by so many that knew him. He also loved hiking in the mountains while soaking in the peacefulness of the outdoors. Exploring his family's homeplace brought him much joy, and he found solace in its tranquility.
He was also a talented writer. As a high schooler, Bob wrote the alma mater for Cherokee High School, which is still used today. His published book, The Slave Daughter, detailed a historical fictional account of life in his beloved community.
Bob's passing is deeply felt by those who knew him. He will be greatly missed, but his legacy will continue through the lives he touched. His kind heart, love for his community, and passion for the outdoors will always be remembered.
