Obituary

Sara Thomason Lathem, 94, of Canton, GA passed away peacefully in her sleep on January, 6, 2019. She was surrounded by her devoted family who will miss her so very much. Sara, or "Maw" as she was called by those who knew and loved her, lived a very long and independent life and she was quick to tell those whom she met that she still lived alone.

Sara was born February 13, 1924 in Canton, GA, the middle daughter of Noah and Sally Thomason. She has resided in Canton most of her life, leaving to attend Georgia State Women's University Valdosta. After returning to Canton, marrying and starting her family, she was a member of the Canton Service League, the Trayletaah Garden Club, and she was a long-standing member of Canton First United Methodist Church. Once her daughters became adults, she began a career working for the Bank of Canton retiring after 30 years. Sara's greatest achievement was the love she invested in, and the strong sense of tradition that she instilled in, her family. She never failed to send birthday cards to grandchildren, grandchildren-in-laws, great grandchildren and make her family feel very special.

She is survived by her daughters, Sally Lathem Bobo (Leon) and Nancy Lathem Sams of Canton, grandchildren Jimmy Bobo (Loretta), Woodstock, Tracy Sams Barnett (Tom), Charlotte, NC, David Bobo (Pam), Woodstock, Terry Sams Hopkins (Tye), Canton, Jeffrey Adams (Ashley), Canton, and Jennifer Adams Luckey (Nate), Valdosta, GA and many great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her beloved daughter Jeannie Lathem Adams, along with her siblings Edward Thomason, Kathryn Cash, Gene Thomason and Nancy Alford.

The family will receive visitors at Darby Funeral Home, Canton, GA on Thursday, January 10, 2019 from 11:00 am. A funeral service will be held Friday, January 11, 2019 at the Chapel of Canton First United Methodist Church at 2:00pm.
