Shirley Gail Darby, 87, of Waleska, Georgia, passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 7, 2025, at Pruitt Healthcare Jasper. Born on September 13, 1937, in Canton, Georgia, she was the daughter of Frank Roberts and Ruby Roberts (Howell).
A dedicated professional, Shirley served as an accounts payable clerk at Kennestone Hospital, from which she retired. Her career also included a remarkable 40-year tenure at Cato's, where she was known for her unwavering commitment and work ethic.
Shirley was a lifelong member of Chalcedonia Baptist Church, where she found community and spiritual fulfillment. Her faith and devotion to her church family were central to her life.
She is survived by her husband, Tom Darby of Waleska; her daughter, Tammy Crook of Ellijay; sons Daryl King, Don King, and Clifford Devin King, all of Canton; Step son, Tommy Darby; Stepdaughters, Teena Poteat, Tanya Willett, And Janet Mullins; her brother, Ray Roberts of Marble Hill; and sisters Faye Byers of Woodstock and Judy Stone of Jasper. Additionally, she leaves behind numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and six great-great-grandchildren, all of whom were a source of immense joy and pride.
A visitation will be held on Sunday, June 8, 2025, from 3:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Darby Funeral Home. The funeral service will take place on Monday, June 9, 2025, at 11:00 AM in the Chapel of Darby Funeral Home, with Rev. Randy Cloer and Rev. Kenneth Green officiating. Interment will follow at Chalcedonia Baptist Church Cemetery.
